Help Yourself Remember

Let me just get to the point. You should print your favorite pictures. You will not regret it! So, why am I bringing this up right now? I recently printed out some of my favorite pictures from 2014, and just realized how beautiful they were when they took on physical form. On print, you don’t have to worry about glare from the light like you do when looking at photos in digital form. When you hang it on the wall, or set it on a counter/tabletop, you get a chance to see it more often. And also, you have a chance to  remember…You remember where it was you took the picture. You remember the people you were with. You remember what was going on in your life that was surrounding that time you took the picture. You remember the emotions at the time you took that picture. Whether it brings back happiness or sadness, it was an important time in your life that is molding you into the person you are today.

Why are pictures so powerful? After a few minutes of googling, you can read so many articles on the power of print. Usually people pay attention to print more than when things show up in the digital form. For example, ads in a magazine or newspaper. There was a study I read that people are more likely to read those than just click away ads when they are in digital form. Another study mentions that pictures relate to people more because it doesn’t take that much reasoning to understand pictures. There’s just so many reasons why pictures are powerful. But they are only meaningful if you are able to see them. There’s no right or wrong way on how to display them. You can print them on paper, on metal, on canvas. You can frame them, mount them, or put them in an album or photobook. If we were honest with ourselves, how many pictures do we skim or not pay attention to on social media. Even the ones we like, we only spend a few seconds on and never go back to it. Once on print, it serves as a reminder because you look at it again and again.

Inspiration:
What can we possibly take away from this thought of printing out pictures? I guess if we stretch our imaginations, we can see that the lesson is not about printing out our pictures. It’s not about the medium or finish you have on your picture. It’s about remembering the past. Little snapshots of what happened in the past that has molded you to who you are right now. Don’t dwell in the past, and don’t allow it to be a veil  in which you see your future. But it’s a stepping stone. Keep moving forward.

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19(KJV)
